OLSZEWSCY TRIO AND FRIENDS
Piotr Olszewski, born 1965 in Bydgoszcz, is a prominent guitarist, graduated with distinctions from Jazz Department at the Music Academy in Katowice in 1993. Got numerous awards and prizes at the festivals and musical competitions, among others: Jazz Juniors in Krakow (1988, 1990, 1991), grand prix at the Festival of Popular Music of Music Schools in Elbląg (1988), finalist at the International Competition of Jazz Improvisation in Katowice (1994), the only individual award at the FAMA Student Festival in Świnoujście (1993), grand prix at the prestigious GUITAR CITY Competition for Jazz Guitarists (1996).
He made several recordings, both jazz (Jazz Invitation Trio, Electric Trio, Unia and Gudrumba, recording session for Polish Radio 3) and popular music (with vocalists Mariusz Lubomski, Tomasz Kamiński or Justyna Bacz). He’s a highly esteemed accompanist and arranger. In 2009 his authorial recording “Olszewski-Bach-Trio” was released, containing jazz interpretations of this magnificent master of baroque music.
He performed at JAZ Festival of Improvised Music on several occasions, last time in 2009, when he promoted the above mentioned recording.
Next year he’ll welcome on the festival stage both his sons – Max and Anotni – students of the prominent Polish Academies of Music in Krakow and Bydgoszcz. They’ll be accompanied by other outstanding jazz musicians – friends of the JAZ Festival of Improvised Music - from Upper Silesia and other regions.
