MARIAN OSLISLO
MARIAN OSLISLO, graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Design of the Katowice Branch of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 1982. The poster is his fascination and he has remained loyal to this form since his university times although it would be difficult to indicate a design area that would be outside of the scope of his interests. He designs and realises almost everything, starting from commercial printing, through covers for books and records, visual signage systems, to photos, interior arrangements, and multimedia. In graphic arts, his favourite forms of expression are digital printing and screen-printing. Recently, more and more often he resorts to calligraphy and handwriting. The plastic value so characteristic of many of his works, obtained through hand-made marks of the marker, brush, pencil, or stylus, processed in the course of the subsequent stages of the creative process, most often through digital media, is of enormous significance for Marian. When he speaks about his fascinations, ‘music’ is a word that occurs frequently. This is reflected in his activities in other areas than just his professional domain. He is the initiator and the founder of the Zabrze Jazz Association, which promotes broadly understood contemporary improvised and avant-garde music, and of the JAZ Improvised Music Festival held since 1994. Professor of Fine Arts, in the years 2005–2012 the rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice. He conducts classes in the Multimedia Activities Studio of the Faculty of Design at the Katowice’s Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1991, he has been running M-Studio, a graphic design enterprise. He is an animator of many cultural events related to the promotion of the Silesian art and design circles. Marian Oslislo’s posters, publishing designs, and prints have been shown within the frames of tens of collective and individual exhibitions both at home and abroad.
